NANTUCKET MOORING SYSTEMS & INSTALLATION

Anderson’s Stillwater Moorings specializes in customized Nantucket mooring systems to suit your vessel. We take the time to carefully evaluate your vessel’s mooring requirements as well as the marine conditions associated with your mooring’s location. This helps ensure your vessel’s mooring system will withstand Nantucket’s unpredictable weather conditions. Upon installation, we properly set your mooring system, based on your location’s wind and wave exposure.

NANTUCKET MOORING INSPECTIONS

Anderson’s Stillwater Moorings is certified by the Town of Nantucket to provide required mooring inspections. This includes a full inspection of all components, from pendant line to anchor. Customers will be notified about components in need of replacement in order to pass the inspections. Recommendations are noted for future work and logs are maintained on all of our customer’s systems. ASM takes the time to notify the Marine and Coastal Resources Department when mooring systems have passed the town’s requirements.

STORM PREPAREDNESS

We recommend that the owner give immediate attention to the following when NOAA weather alerts us that Nantucket could be exposed to a severe storm or hurricane warning.

1. Boats that can be hauled on a trailer should be hauled out now
2. Remove dinghy from davits, dinghy dock or beach and haul to high ground
3. Reduce windage, i.e. remove all canvas, dodgers, biminis, enclosures, etc.
4. Remove furling jibs completely and stow below
5. Remove anchors that project forward of the roller furler and alike as the anchor will chafe away the mooring pennant in heavy seas
6. Lash main sails or remove completely
7. Your existing pennant line should be adequate, but if you add additional lines you must zip tie them together every 2 feet so they cannot tangle around the mooring ball (adding lines inappropriately will greatly increase the chances that your pendant line will chafe through)
8. Double check and secure chafe gear in place where mooring pennant or bridle passes through chocks. This is very important. It must stay in place throughout the entire storm. Secure additional chafe guard as needed at other potential chafe areas.
9. Shut off all seacocks
10. Secure all ports and hatches-

GIVING BACK

As a Nantucket native who has built Anderson’s Stillwater Moorings from its infancy, I feel it is important to give back to the community that has given so much to me. We are furthering this commitment by supporting Nantucket non-profits and research institutions, helping to inspire young people to become interested in maritime and marine education, sustainable health of Nantucket’s watersheds and harbors and to enjoy this beautiful island and its natural resources.
